A Tata Nexon EV caught fire next to the Mumbai airport's Terminal 1 building on the evening of August 21, 2024. The driver was the only person in the vehicle when the fire sparked.It is noticeable that the majority of electric car fires have occurred in the summer's heatwave.It's necessary to understand that these are singular scenarios, though.     As per information, the driver was alone in the car when the fire sparked. When the driver noticed the fire, he drove over to the side of the road and safely left his vehicle. Firefighters arrived quickly and successfully extinguished the fire.The fire appears to have flared up under the Nexon EV's bonnet, that carries the motor and high-voltage connections. Currently, there is no information on the cause of the fire, but we made a request for a statement from Tata Motors on the matter.

    The problem of electric vehicles catching fire is not something new. According to an e-AMRIT review by NITI Aayog, fires have occurred in around 0.006% of all-electric vehicles sold in India.Despite the bare minimum possibility of fire in these vehicles, there is a negative attitude towards electric automobiles. Most EV fires are caused by improper assembly of aftermarket components.

    Yet another Tata Nexon EV catches fire in Pune earlier. Following an inspection, Tata Motors discovered that an unauthorised workshop's incorrect 'headlamp replacement' caused an electrical failure. While no repair reports have been released on this occurrence, we will have to wait a few days for a clear picture to develop.

           A few weeks ago, the Mumbai Fire Safety Department discussed banning EV charging in parking areas. This recommendation was made to decrease EV fires in community parking lots, which are difficult to reach. While this regulation has not yet been implemented, we expect that a comprehensive investigation will assist the organisation in determining the source of the problem and resolving it all at once.
